We believe that a little bit of empathy can go a long way, both at home and abroad.
Our mission
Educate & empower
Empathy FX International is a global non-profit organization that strives to alleviate global poverty by creating easy access to high-quality education. We seek to broaden perspectives of students around the world, raise awareness of global education issues, and raise funds to support our schools in Ghana.
Our methods
Humble Leadership
We are not afraid to be wrong. Here at Empathy FX, problem-solving comes before pride - we adapt to new challenges and often let go of old ways.
Listening before Acting
There are too many nonprofits that assume what communities need. At Empathy FX, we listen to the people we serve to truly understand how to add value to their lives.
Learning before Teaching
"I learned more from the community than they did from me," is a common quote we hear from our travelers. Of course, this is true. Our two founders are from the USA and Ghana; they lead this company together and emulate the mutually beneficial relationship that Empathy FX has with the communities we serve.
Our perspective
Oftentimes people who live comfortable lives look at those who are impoverished and assume they have control over their situation. If you were to take a closer look at the life of one of our students, you would learn that it’s not quite so easy. The cycle of poverty in the villages we serve began long ago, soon after colonization in Ghana. Now, the effects are still readily seen in the most rural parts of the country.
Education is a key unlock to increasing household income, as literate families are able to apply for higher salaried positions. The cycle of poverty persists when parents can’t afford to send their children to school because they need help farming and selling crops in order to get an income of $1-3 USD for their family per day. Thus, our vision is to ensure that all children in Ghana have free access to quality education in their local village, to help families break out of the cycle of poverty.
In 2009, our co-founder Nana Aggrey Fynn heard of a local Ghanaian village that needed a school and reached out asking if I would partner with him to build it. This is how our journey began - from a humble project to 5 school buildings and over 1,000+ students every semester.
We believe in a global partnership. As co-founders, we live in the United States and Ghana respectively, providing our non-profit a unique global perspective. We believe it is vital for global non-profit organizations to truly understand (and live with) the local population.
Our name, Empathy FX, can be phonetically translated into “Empathy Affects.” With your help, we can help leverage people’s empathy to affect the world around them.
